The Wound of Separation

Reader,

Do you ever feel like you just can't hold it all together any longer? Like the weight of the world is too much to bear alone?

The feeling that something essential has been lost within us, and in our relationship with the living world.

I see it in my own life, and I see it everywhere. We live in a culture that asks us to keep moving, producing, achieving, and holding everything together. We learn to value doing over being, productivity over presence, certainty over mystery.

Somewhere along the way, many of us have become separated from our bodies, our feelings, one another, and the earth.

I’ve spent much of my life trying to understand this. And the more I’ve searched, the more I’ve come to believe that what we need now is a return to the wisdom of the Divine Feminine—not “feminine” as something belonging only to women, but an ancient way of relating to life through embodiment, intuition, mystery, cycles, nature, and relationship.

For me, this path is a going within, a descent.

Maybe you know something about this, too. Maybe there has been a time when you felt heavy, alone, or simply wanted to close the door and disappear for a while.

I have known those places.

And I’ve come to understand that sometimes life brings us there because something deeper is asking to be felt, seen, and reclaimed.

When we are willing to stay with what we’ve been avoiding, something begins to change. An old way of being can fall away, and something more authentic can emerge.

There is a story that holds this wisdom. It is an ancient story, the first written story, over 5,000 years ago.

This is the story of Inanna.

And the more I’ve come to know her, the more I’ve felt that she holds something we desperately need to remember—a way through the descent and back toward wholeness.

Over the next few weeks I'm going to share with you my story of how she found me.

With love,
Marie Rose

Inannna's Altar

Reader, Inanna’s story was buried for thousands of years—but it was not lost. Her story was written over 5,000 years ago, the first story ever recorded. The daughter of the first King of Sumer, Enheduanna, a high priestess of Inanna, the first known author wrote stories and hymns to Inanna. In doing so she preserved a record of feminine wisdom that might otherwise have disappeared. She saw the empires coming and knew this wisdom of the Divine Feminine would be essential to humanity in future...

Reader, The longer I spent with Inanna, the more her story revealed to me. I’ve read it more times than I can count, and each time I find something new. In this journey I’ve become a priestess and devotee of Inanna, but more than anything, I am a woman who has walked her journey. Many times over. I know something about losing the life I thought I was supposed to have, losing parts of myself along the way, and discovering that something more true was waiting underneath it all. Inanna’s story...

Reader, Without consciously realizing it, Inanna had been walking with me my entire life, through all the trials and tribulations that shaped who I am. The many descents and returns I’ve experienced throughout my life. While something in her story had always resonated with me it wasn’t until a couple of years ago, as I was approaching my 50th year and my Chiron return, that she came to me in a way that was so direct and profound that I knew my life was about to change in a big way. At the...
